Fox News And The GOP Are Wrong: Red States Use The Most Food Stamps

Just to be clear, though, Fox News is saying you people in Mississippi are defrauding the government. However, it seems it’s the retailers ripping off the food stamp program for profit, exchanging food stamps for money at a rate of 50 cents on the dollar. Yes, it’s the job creators stealing from the government — big shock. There goes another colored man narrative stealing from the government meme up in smoke.

Here’s a food stamp reality check from the Wall Street Journal (also owned by Murdoch but apparently Fox News researchers were unable to find this information even though it comes up first on Google for me, a non-Fox watcher) from last November:

Food stamp rolls exploded during the downturn, which began in late 2007. Even after the recession came to its official end in June 2009, families continued to tap into food assistance as unemployment remained high and those lucky enough to find jobs were often met with lower wages.

States also made changes to make it easier for residents to tap into the program, such as waiving requirements that limited the value of assets food stamp recipients could own.

Fox News and Republicans live in a fantasy world of made up reality where they spend their time pointing their fingers outward, lathered up in sanctimonious, self-righteous rage based on lies and paranoia. The 'food stamp president' narrative is just one more lie holding up their false cardboard world. Sadly, they have no idea how absurd and pathetic they are because they are too emotionally and mentally distant from reality to recognize it.

It is not a fantasy world. They lie. I can not tell you how many elderly work one or more jobs just to eat, especially in right to work states.

Do you think it could be the failure of Reagan's "trickle-down" economic policy, which was the real redistribution of wealth the extreme right always cries about the Democrats wanting to do? It's curious how everything they accuse the left of doing is exactly what they have already done from the other side of the spectrum, with disastrous results.

The real "food-stamp president" is GW Bush. After all, it's HIS policies and deregulation that caused the present economic meltdown. The GOP find themselves in an indefensible position, so attacks are all they can muster. Their present primary "frontrunners" are a national laughingstock, with nothing of substance, no ideas or solutions, except reiteration of the same failed policies that hamstring this country from becoming prosperous again.

I can't watch any of those GOP so-called "debates" any longer. I wait for the pundits to dissect them, but even the pundits are having a difficult time being serious about them now, too. I think you're right. The GOP is slowly becoming insane. No other way to call it.

BTW, FR received and sent! :) (I hope you get it - I keep getting "error" messages)

Monkey99.....Thanks for accepting the FR request..

As for the Red State, Blue State argument. The United States sends billions to other countries for whatever reason, and quibble about helping to feed their own. It has always been my contention that: In order to do for someone else, you should be able to do for yourself first.

Gingrich thought by calling Obama the "Food Stamp President" it would enhance his standing with those who would condescend. But in truth(I believe)it showed the feelings Obama, and Bush has/had for the less fortunate,in that they recognized there is such a person with the title of "The Working Poor", and for reason(s) beyond their control are unable to fully take care of their families. Thus, Obama is vilified for saying "We must help feed these folks", and Bush gets a pass.

BTW.....I've always felt Bush Was a good person just not a good President.

Of course, Fox News doesn’t tell their cult are that the people most likely to be on food stamps aren’t in blue states like California, but in red states like Mississippi, where more than 21% are on food stamps. Mississippi is also distinguished as the reddest of the red states, along with Wyoming. In other words, the food stamp users are Fox News’ base. Naturally, they hate themselves. Wouldn’t you?

I have another thread on this topic where right wingers have been arguing that Fox is right and everyone else is wrong... But what can you expect from FAUX news cult followers...

Great seed!

If they label all other news outlets as "liberal" and the "lame stream media" ... they can convince a subset of the population that they are the only ones in the world that are "fair and balanced" and tell all the lies they want ... it's very sad that there is such a huge and gullible following that won't look anywhere else because they have been told not to.

Subliminal messages, I tell you, subliminal messages. It must be akin to mind cocaine, because I just don't get how so many people are willing to put their brains on the shelf and watch that rediculous station!

What is the point of this seed. Anyone could guess that the rural south is poorer than Californians. Having said that, what is the point to be made? Do you recommend I watch Fox News a bit more in order to find out?

Not unless you want your brain to turn to mush. The point is, I4M, is that Gingrich (in particular) calls President Obama the food stamp president when the stats bear out the fact that Bush, indeed, had by far larger numbers. And isn't it interesting that the poorest and most needy are in red states - obviously the trickle down ain't workin' in their neck of the woods.

Yes, the poorest and neediest ARE in red states, yet and still they continue to vote AGAINST their best interests. The definition of "insanity" comes to mind.
